Ashburton is an ancient market town on the southern tip of Dartmoor that is equidistant between Plymouth and Exeter. It has a strong mining tradition and is one of Devon’s four Stannary towns. With Dartmoor being an ideal place to graze sheep, wool was an important resource resulting in Ashburton being well known for its cloth during the industrial period.
Today the town is still thriving and it is a good base to enjoy the rugged sites of Dartmoor, but to also be in reach of the glorious South Devon coastline
Local attractions include a museum which has a good collection of Native American artifacts and the
River Dart Adventures.
